Project Requirement

Customer has a function to get auction data from different barns.

The customer needed to implement analytics on auction data and give that analysis to its subscribers for their consumption. Analytics included trend analysis of “Average $/Head” and comparison of “Average Weight” in comparison to other barns.

Subscribers needed to download the analysis. And of course, subscribers should be able to view and edit their profile.

Customer wanted full control over granting or revoking subscriptions to subscribers or new signups.

Customer wanted the implementation on serverless architecture to have low operating cost when subscriber base is small and scale rapidly as subscriber base grows.

Solution

We implemented Serverless Architecture on AWS. Please refer to below block diagram.

Solution Blocks

1. Serverless Authentication and Authorization – includes user pool management, user authorization of functions, encrypted communication (SSL)
2. Application Layer – includes API interface and highly scalable and yet serverless APIs
3. Data Layer – includes serverless Database
4. Presentation Layer – includes CDN and highly scalable and yet serverless Web Server
5. Supporting Functions – includes charting functions, email and log analysis

The whole solution was implemented on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Result

1. All the stated requirements are met.
2. Customer got the highly scalable, fault tolerant and yet low operating cost Web Application.
3. Customer doesn’t need to be bothered with provisioning of servers and application scales transparently as traffic increases.
4. Customer pays mostly for storage and transactions. So cost is low initially and scales as transactions grow.
